If you’re anything like me, you are always looking for new ways to make money blogging. One of my favorite ways to earn a passive income from my blog is by creating and selling digital products. In this post, I will be going over exactly how to get started creating digital products, the 15 best digital products for bloggers, and how to ensure that your products actually sell.

Digital products are just one way that you can make money blogging.

The great thing about blogging is that there are so many different ways to monetize your blog:

    • Affiliate Marketing
    • Courses
    • Sponsored Content
    • Ads
    • Digital Products
    • E-Commerce + Physical Products

The best part? You don’t have to choose just one! You can monetize your blog using several different income streams to really maximize your revenue.

Most bloggers start with affiliate marketing and ads because they are relatively easy to learn and can earn you money fairly quickly.

Affiliate marketing and ad networks can also bring in a steady and significant income for bloggers. Some bloggers are earning 5 figures per month with affiliate marketing alone.

But with so many different ways for bloggers to make money, why not take advantage of more than just affiliate marketing + ads?

Let’s talk about digital products for bloggers that will help you build a passive income stream

In this post, we’ll be going over:

    • How to find the perfect digital product for your niche + audience
    • 15 Ideas for digital products
    • Steps to take before you start selling your product
    • How to ensure your products will sell
    • How and where to sell your digital products

Creating and selling digital products is a great way to earn passive income, but you don’t want to go into it blindly.

There are several things you need to do before you start creating your products.

You need to first figure out exactly what type of products your audience needs and is looking for. What would solve a problem for them?

The easiest way to figure this out is to just ask them!

Send an email out to your email list and do a quick survey. If you’ve been building a relationship with your email subscribers, most of them would probably respond well to this kind of survey.

In order to really maximize sales of your new digital products, it’s important to be laser-focused on the needs of your actual audience and potential clients.

Build your audience first, and then design a product (or products) that they need and can’t resist purchasing.

Start Designing: Seriously, just do it!

You don’t need to be a graphic designer to create digital products.

If you are just starting out, I recommend using Canva to get started.

Canva is a great tool for beginners and offers tons of resources to help you design amazing products.

But just because Canva is great for beginners doesn’t mean you can’t make seriously amazing products and designs with it. Canva offers serious value when it comes to designing everything from templates to resumes to worksheets and much more.

Depending on your level of skill + the products you plan to create, there are some great options out there to help you get started.

Other tools you can use include Photoshop, InDesign, PicMonkey, Easil, and Over.

Remember, there is no rush here. I know we all want to make money as quickly as possible, but really taking the time to practice and hone your design skills will make a world of difference in whether your products sell or not.

You can get started using Canva Pro with a free 30-day trial using this link.

    Pre-Launch to your Email Subscribers

So, you’ve already asked your readers what kinds of digital products they needed, which has warmed them up a bit to the idea of your new products.

Once you’re finished creating and your products are ready to be launched, you should do a pre-launch email series to your email subscribers.

Start by sending out a few emails related to your products + the problems that they solve. This will really warm up your subscribers for when you actually launch.

They might read your emails and say ‘oh, yeah I’ve experienced that!’ or ‘Yeah, I have that issue as well’.

Then, when you send out that launch email, they have already been primed to want to buy it. It will be a no brainer for them.

    Promote on Social Media

You can start promoting your digital products on social even before they are ready for launch.

Even if you don’t have a huge following, you can still use social media to garner sales.

Similar to your email list, you should get to know your followers and figure out how you can help them.

If you’re trying to make money by selling a product, you need to first make sure that you are filling a demand that already exists.

The way you do that is by interacting with your audience, both on social media and with your blog subscribers.

Don’t create products that you think will help people, create products that you know will help them because you’ve already asked them.

Where to Sell Digital Products for Bloggers

You can sell your digital products across several different platforms, including:

    • Your own blog
    • Shopify
    • Etsy
    • Creative Market

I recommend using SendOwl + WooCommerce plugin for WordPress to sell your products on your blog.

Getting set up on SendOwl is very simple and as easy as uploading your products and setting your price.

Once your product is uploaded to SendOwl, you will be given a custom link to that product’s sales page.

Using the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress, you can create a sales page on your blog to list your products.

The products listed on your blog will link to your SendOwl sales page.

Here’s my sales page for reference:

You can also sell digital products on Etsy and Creative Market.

It’s pretty simple to get started selling digital products on Etsy. All you need is an Etsy account, and then you can open up an Etsy shop and start listing your products.

You should do some research on Etsy SEO and how to maximize sales on Etsy. It’s easy to get your shop set up, but actually making sales requires some legwork.

Selling on Creative Market requires submitting an application and being approved before you can start selling your digital products.

Some things to do before you submit your application to Creative Market:
    • Create a design portfolio
    • List your items on your website first
    • Design attractive featured photos for your listings
    • Have at least 10 digital products ready to sell

Designing and selling digital products is not an overnight thing. It takes time and practice, but if you take the time to do it correctly, it can become a great source of income for you.

The best part about selling digital products is that it’s pretty much ‘set it and forget it’. Once you’ve created your product, and listed it for sale on the platforms you’ve chosen, you can move onto your next awesome project.

You can always go back and update your products, change the prices, etc. but digital products are a great way to earn passive income.

If you’re lacking design inspiration, do a quick search on Etsy or Creative Market for the kinds of digital products you want to create. Check out what others have created and use that as inspiration for your own designs.

You can’t copy someone else’s design, but you can browse products to get ideas to inspire your design.

Canva also offers great templates to help inspire your designs. You cannot sell any of the templates available on Canva, but you can use them as inspiration as long as you aren’t copying the design exactly.

    The Recap

    • Build your audience
    • Survey them to figure out what digital products they actually need
    • Get started designing
    • Pre-Launch to your email list
    • Promote on Social Media
    • Launch your new product

I hope this post was helpful and you feel more prepared to get started creating and selling digital products with your blog!
